Italy / Lake Garda to Venice

Highlights of the Venice Lands

Formed as a stunning result of the last glaciation, the enchanting attractiveness of Lake Garda has enraptured all its visitors even beginning in 1786 with Wolfgang Goethe, its first illustrious tourist and promoter. Alpine atmosphere, colours and flavours unique of the Mediterranean will follow you on your bike tour through medieval villages and castles, along the streets of some famous Italian art cities, while you will be delighted to be spoilt in a 4* spa resort in the largest European thermal district.

    1. Desenzano/Peschiera
    Individual arrival.

    2. Desenzano/Peschiera – Verona (60/35 km)
Today you head to Verona. With the river Adige crossing it, this is one of the most important and beautiful cities in the Veneto region. Worth visiting are: the Roman Arena, the Church of San Zeno and Juliet’s House.

    3. Verona – Illasi/Soave (30/40 km)
The stage is flat and relaxing, crossing beautiful vineyards and the countryside. Your cycle route will join the “Strada del Vino” (wine road) that leads to Illasi/ Soave, a very famous area full of vineyards and nice medieval sights.

    4. Illasi/Soave – Vicenza (50/40 km)
At first, the route starts out flat and then heads through the Colli Berici, a hilly region just south of Vicenza, with a wonderful view of the city. The old city centre is characterised by the beautiful private palaces and public buildings by Andrea Palladio, the famous 16th century architect known all over the world.

    5. Vicenza – Padua thermal district (50 km)
Cycling out of Vicenza, along the cycle path of the river Bacchiglione, you can admire the Palladian masterpiece Villa La Rotonda. Then, past the hamlet of Montegalda, you will head towards the Euganean Hills, where you can relax in a resort of the largest European thermal district.

    6. Padua thermal district  – Mestre/Venice (55 km)
Along the cycle path of the Battaglia Canal you will pass through Padua, home to one of the oldest Italian (and European) universities and rich in art and history. From here, along the Piovego Canal, you will reach Stra and will follow the Brenta Canal, overlooked by the countryside villas of the ancient Venetian nobility (Villa Pisani, Villa Malcontenta, Villa Widmann) until you reach Mestre, Venice mainland. You can choose to overnight in Venice with a supplement.
Please note that in Venice (apart from Piazzale Roma and train station Santa Lucia) it is forbidden to cycle, and also to push your bike by hand.

    7. Mestre/Venice
