A born dreamer, Pierpaolo founded Girolibero/Zeppelin in 1998. His travel diaries cover over 500,000 km of hitchhiking adventures the length and breadth of Europe and the most unusual collection of bikes. The latest? – A bike rickshaw. Favourite mode of travel? – Bike and boat. His CV lists some unlikely occupations, from ice cream parlour fittings consultant to novelty jewellery and trinkets salesman. Pierpaolo is also known to have had a go at the 80-km Kennedy Mars march in Holland, after which he irreversibly converted to cycling holidays... When not at the company's HQ in Vicenza, he's most likely out at lunch with one of his staff – something he enjoys doing with each of them in turn.

Has been aboard the Girolibero airship for a good 15 years now, co-ordinating tour leaders and their destinations. A Vicenza thoroughbred, Giovanni is nonetheless driven by the adventurer's instinct to travel. Snow – and sliding down it – rank among his passions, with a never-ending quest for the perfect slope. Adores good food and fine wines and is working on visiting all the wine-producing areas in the world – preferably by bike (so as not to lose his license!:)). A Vespa enthusiast, he is the proud owner of four vintage models, all beautifully crafted: "Vespas are a passion that refuses to die," Giovanni says:"it's all about freedom, it's all about eternal youth."

Born in Vicenza in 1978, Nicola caught the travel bug at a very early age and spent years living in various countries in Asia, North Africa, Latin America and Europe, always working in tourism. In Lin Yutang's own words, however, "You do not realise how wonderful it is to travel, until you return home and lay your head down on your dear, old pillow." Which is why Nicola adores his home town so much: Vicenza, where he lives with his wife and two children, and works designing and planning bike tours in Italy.

Born in the Berici Hills outside Vicenza, the fourth of five siblings and the only girl. A femminist and contrarian by vocation, she is never short of a pretext for being out on the road: particularly memorable are her temp jobs around Europe, including at a small ice cream shop along the River Main cycling track. Graduated with a thesis on Käurismäki's films, Alice still loves a challenge, despite settling down as a partner and parent. Next up: a marathon, teaching her little girl to pedal and... cycling the Paris-London!

Andrea may be a boy's name in Italy, but this has never stopped her from being dead proud of it and travelling abroad with it. Her forays include Austria, where she has lived and studied languages. Andrea translates, checks and enriches our client information material year after year. She is a maniac for attention to detail (she is a virgo after all), and when not working on roadbooks and cycling guides, she loves group tours on two wheels – not least the family ones: kids on bikes are just great!

A household name to any cycling aficionado: raced for 15 years alongside the top champs, before settling down – after 8 Giri d'Italia, 4 Tours de France and 17 international victories – with his new team: Girolibero. Andrea is in charge of programming our racing bike tours (many of which he also leads) on the most thrilling routes around Europe – and will happily take you to the moon if asked! When not pedalling, he loves spending time with his children, family and friends.

Given the option, Anna will always bike it: not that she loathes cars – she just hates parking them. Developed an early passion for languages through her friendship with pen pals, with cultural exchanges in France and Britain followed by a year in Lakewood (California) at the end of her secondary studies. Graduated in languages in Venice with a semester in pedal paradise (Amsterdam). Met her soulmate on a bike race – and sometimes thinks she would have been better off driving that day!

Signed up to the Girolibero team in 2009 after a long experience tour leading. Born and bred in Padova, Antonio graduated in Tourism Economy at Venice University. A passion for travel and the Great Outdoors led him to a casual encounter with a cycling tour: it was love at first sight and his life, work and wanderlust have never been the same since.

The sun – whether on a beach or in a park – and a good book make her ideal day. Loves travelling in thought and body alike, often in the wake of what she reads. Eleonora is the fourth of five siblings and adores having fun with her tribe – not least sharing her passion for graphic novels. Her natural element: Water. Her dream: to swim in all of the world’s most beautiful stretches of water!

A graduate in languages for tourism, Elisa has lived in half of Europe, exploring on foot and by bike. Forever seeking to learn as many languages as possible, Slovene now stands out as her favourite. After years abroad, Elisa has now rediscovered her native Vicenza, and will endlessly harangue her friends with the mantra: “There’s more to Vicenza than Palladio”. While passionate about softball and films, she relaxes by the seaside and snorkelling. She loves the Nordic way of life, not least tucking into a hearty breakfast.

Joined in 2000, aged 23, almost by chance. After tour leading in Ireland in 2001, he was adopted by the Girolibero family, and his thirst for discovery and his enthusiasm have never left him since. With a passion for the 70s, Lanerossi Vicenza FC and anything on wheels, he adores bikes (powered and pedalled), cars (convertibles especially) and Fiat 500s of any year or colour. Always surrounded by friends – both real and imaginary (Shrek is his idol) – Enrico lives happily with his Fiona (oops, Elisa) in Vicenza.

Born and bred in Vicenza, proud of his roots, but also loves all that is weird and wonderful beyond the city walls. After a degree in Communication Science and time in the green vales of Ireland (experiencing Guinness and folk at their best), Giulio landed in the realms of tourism almost by chance. Despite a background in humanities, he enjoys documenting Girolibero's growth with numbers, statistics, bar graphs and pie charts. Affable and witty, but not averse to winding people up either. Do not, ever, tease him about Vicenza FC: Giulio can bite.

Born in a hamlet snuggled in the Pelmo and Civetta mountains, Katia moved down to the Venetian lagoon to study Chinese. Further East, strapped to her rucksack, she toured from frosty Manchuria to the remote mountains of Sichuan, from East Coast towns such as Shanghai and Canton as far as the desolate plateaux of Tibet. After settling in Vicenza for love and work, Katia now tours on two wheels with Paolo, forever seeking out new horizons and cultures. In her spare time she loves reading, mountain walking, jogging with colleagues and trying out new Chinese dishes. Adores ice cream.

With a rucksack full of adventures collected with the Scouts, Maddalena loves mountains and nature. Ever drawn to what lies beyond, she graduated in translation and interpreting and has spent time abroad – notably in Germany but also in Ireland, Switzerland and Spain. An inquisitive walker, Maddalena loves to sniff out all there is to know about a town that is new to her. Through her passion for art, her work as an exhibition guide inevitably led her into the folds of Girolibero. Maddalena is also keen on drama and, needless to say, two-wheeled travel (both motorised and leg-powered). She is fascinated by cats and their feline perfection.

Whether it’s a barbie with friends, a Sunday outing or a 20,000-strong festival, give Marco something to organise and he’ll be happy. When not immersed in his group tours, kids’ activities or megafests, he’ll be on a rugby pitch. A world-wanderer since childhood, Marco always comes back home bewitched by the places he visits, the people and their stories. His favourite adventure? – Strapped under his rucksack, and savouring the right mix of history, culture, nature, chillout, fine food and a beer or three.

Girolibero's "youngster" has been checking and translating our background material since 2007. She loves volleyball, beach volley and clubbing – always an opportunity to sport an impressive collection of high heels. Martina was keen to improve her German after qualifying in languages at high school in 2009: we packed her off to Bavaria for a few months, and she is now as comfortable with a Radler as she is with an aperitivo.

Joined the Girolibero ranks in May 2006 as a temp translator and preparing info packs before firmly planting her roots. Progressed to programming and bookings, enriching her contribution with historical and gastronomic hints and tips – which are always welcome! In her free time Natasha lets her hair down at rock concerts and funfairs, and relaxes with a game of "Super Mario" or a Scandinavian whodunnit.

Astride a Girolibero saddle since 2017 and a Vicenza boy to the core, Nicola can’t get enough of his home town – especially its wines, Bigoli pasta with ragout, and the hills he burns with his bike or classic Vespa. Vicenza for him means la Dolce Vita and the place you come back to after drinking in some far-flung adventure. He has ticked all the continents with his surfboard and fishing rod, forever in search of the Perfect Wave and the most beautiful fish – which, more often than not, he just briefly admires. Costa Rica holds a special place in his heart for its wild nature – even as a child, Nicola preferred the forest to the playground. A stupendous collection of exotic orchids now graces his lounge.

Silvia is a gypsy at heart, a citizen of the world and tree hugger.

Particularly connected to the British Isles and the Celtic world, she’s a professional falconer and a Druid apprentice. An animal lover, she dreams of hiking, cycling and meditating in wild nature, sleeping by a lake in a camper van and flying her birds.

Hails from the village of Camisano (Vicenza). Joined Girolibero in 2010 and her main task is translating the background material into German and English (which she feels perfectly comfortable with) and compiling the info packs for travellers. What else? Valentina loves travelling with her husband and spending her evenings with friends and a decent glass of wine. Also enjoys getting far from the madding crowd and a good book.
